SARAH BUTLER JESSEN, PH.D.
FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Sarah has over 20 years of experience as a researcher and educator. She began as a classroom teacher in New York City at the elementary level. While in NYC, she worked as a teacher trainer for the Lucy Calking Reading & Writing Project. Since then, she has worked for major educational and social organizations, such as the Maine Community College System, Portland Public Schools, Southern Maine Community College, Rippleffect, Public Consulting Group, the Economic Policy Institute, the Institute for Education and Social Policy (NYU), the International Baccalaureate Organization, the Vera Institute for Justice, and New Visions for Public Schools. She has participated in all phases of national as well as local program evaluations and curriculum development. Sarah has expertise in qualitative research as well as quantitative analysis, and regularly teaches statistics and research methods at the University of Southern Maine. In addition, she has supervised teachers while at USM. Her writings have been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented reports and analyses to many stakeholders and clients over the years. Sarah has a Ph.D. from New York University in Educational Leadership (policy analysis), an M.A. from Teachers College at Columbia University in Anthropology and Education, and a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College in English.
